Parenting Workshop to Overcome Stress of COVID

Unity, NJ — We all want our kids to THRIVE! However, the typical reward and punishment tactics we’ve learned don’t seem to work. The tools used by parents for years, have some long-term effects that are damaging. That’s why the Point Harbor Church is offering an free parenting seminar to equip parents with new and powerful tools to bring about change in their children.

“In this seminar we want to equip parents in two large areas,” says Pastor Tom. “First, we want to help parents with training tools to get things done in family life with less friction. Second, we’ll help parents know how to correct children without overly relying on reward and punishment strategies.”

The heart-based strategies presented in this seminar were designed by the National Center for Biblical Parenting. Dr Scott Turansky and Joanne Miller, authors and founders, will teach the seminar on Saturday, January 30, 2021 from 8:45 am to 12:00 pm. The seminar is open to the entire seven cities and is just one of the programs Point Harbor Church offers to strengthen families. The tools taught apply to all children ages 2-18. This will be a morning well spent!

The heart-based approach is in contrast to the reward/punishment models many parents are using. “Behavior Modification basically says ‘I’ll give you what you want if you do what I say,’ says Dr. Scott Turansky. “Controlling behavior may work for the short term but it breeds selfishness over time. Kids learn to ask, ‘What’s in it for me?’ It’s no wonder so many parents have trouble with their kids. Furthermore, kids tend to do the minimum necessary to get the reward. There’s another way to parent that’s much more effective. Our seminars not only tell parents what to do. We show them how to do it.”

The cost for this seminar is normally $20 per person, but the church is covering the cost. Turansky and Miller have written the curriculum for the children’s program. “Parents love it when their children come home with a new vision for adding energy to family life,” says Joanne Miller.

Point Harbor Church as many programs to strengthen families. This seminar is just one important piece. “We will give parents a toolbox full of ideas so that moms and dads can look at problems like disrespect, defiance, and bad attitudes as opportunities for teaching instead of feeling like they’re in a torture chamber.”

This event is for every family. Moms, dads, and grandparents all benefit from new ideas. Teachers are welcome too, and can receive a CEU certificate at the end of the morning. Certificates are also available for parents who need to show proof of attendance. Please plan to join us and invite your friends. You won’t want to miss this powerful and hope-producing morning.
